3. Environmental Function
3.1 Constant Heat & Humidity Test
Charge cells in 1.2 or 1.3 charge methods, put cells into 40℃±2℃ (90%~95%RH) constant temperature and humidity chamber, and store for 48hrs, then take cells out and store for 2 hrs under room temperature. Check the exterior appearance, then discharge at 1C5mA till cut-off voltage
Test Criterion: 1) No deformations, corrosion, smoke or explosion
2) Discharging time shall be not less than 36mins
3.2 Vibration Test
Charge cells in 1.2 or 1.3 charge methods, install them on the vibration table, adjust the experimental instruments according to the following vibration and amplitude frequency. Vibrate 30mins within 10-55Hz from X,Y,Z three directions in 10Hz~55Hz sweep vibration at the speed rate of 1oct/min:
Vibration frequency:10Hz~30 Hz(single amplitude)
Displacement amplitude(single):0.38mm;
Amplitude frequency:30Hz~55 Hz(single)
Displacement amplitude (single): 0.19mm.
Test Criterion: 1) No damage, leakage, smoke or explosion
2) Cell voltage not less than nominal voltage
3.3 Crash Test
After After the test in 3.2 specified methods is over, fix the cells on the vibration table by the fixture from the three perpendicular X,Y,Z axes respectively, then follow the requirements below to adjust the acceleration, pulse duration time for crash test:
Pulse peak acceleration: 100m/s2,
Collision frequency per min: 40~80
Pulse duration time: 16mins
Collision frequency: 1000±10.
Test Criterion: 1) No damage, leakage, smoke or explosion
2) Cell voltage not less than nominal voltage
3.4 Drop Test
After the completion of test in 3.3 specified methods, drop cell samples from the height of 1000mm to 18-20mm wooden board on the cement floor. Drop along X, Y, Z axis (6 directions) 1 time respectively, then charge and discharge at 1C rate, until the discharging time is not less than 51mins. The cycles shall be no less than three times.
Test Criterion: No electrolyte leakage, smoke or explosion
4 Safety Test
4.1 Impact Test
Put cells on an impact platform, drop a 158mm-diameter iron ball with 9.1kg right above the cells freely from the height of 610mm to impact the cells. Distortion is allowed.
Test Criterion: No fire or explosion
4.2 Extrusion Test
Put cells between the surfaces of the extrusion equipment, with the cylindrical cell axis parallel to the extrusion plane, and gradually increase the pressure to 13kN for 1min
Test Criterion: No fire or explosion
4.3 Thermal Shock Test
Put cells in an electric blowing oven, and increase at speed of 5±2℃/min from the room temperature till 130±2℃ for 30mins
Test Criterion: No fire or explosion
4.4 Over-charge Test
Discharge in 0.2C5mA till cut-off voltage, then connect cells’ positive and negative electrode to constant voltage power supply. Adjust the current to 3 C5mA and voltage to 10V, then charge cells in 3 C5mA till the output voltage is no less than 10V, then charge continuously for 1hr or till the voltage stops increasing
Test Criterion: No fire or explosion
4.5 Short-circuit Test
Put cells connected with thermocouples into a fuming cupboard, short-circuit the positive and negative electrodes with copper wire (total resistance of the circuit less than 50mΩ). Monitor the temperature of the cells, and stop the test when the temperature is 10℃ lower than the peak value
Test Criterion: 1) No fire or explosion
2) Max temperature﹤150℃
4.6 Nail Test
Put cells connected with thermocouples into a fuming cupboard, thrust through the center of largest surface of the cells with a Φ3.0mm stainless steel pin at the speed of 20~40mm/s.
Test Criterion: No fire or explosion
